About In-Person Lessons
-
My instruction utilizes traditional atelier methods and welcomes beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Lessons emphasize both accurate observation and a deeper understanding of form and structure.
Two complementary approaches form the foundation of my teaching:
Sight-Size Method: A classical observational technique in which the subject and artwork are compared from a fixed viewing position. This method develops visual accuracy, proportion, and sensitivity to tonal relationships.
Constructive Drawing Method: An approach that breaks down complex subjects into simpler geometric forms, developing an understanding of structure, perspective, and three-dimensional space.
I also incorporate the practical study of linear perspective and artistic anatomy to help strengthen students' understanding of space, proportion, and form. Further instruction covers materials, composition, value, and color, with an emphasis on applying these principles directly to drawing and painting from life.
I frequently give live demonstrations as I teach, as well as constructive feedback and individually tailored assignments.

Within a shared studio environment, students work independently on their own projects, sometimes alongside others. They receive personalized instruction, practical demonstrations, and constructive feedback on their work.
-
Students are responsible for bringing their own drawing or painting materials. A recommended materials list will be provided in advance, according to the chosen medium and project.
